Design and Looks
The phone is very similar to the Z550i; it has a brush metal exterior with a secondary monochromatic display on the outside. SE has also made use of high gloss material on this one.
The hinge of this fliphone may be a little hard to manipulate with a single hand but that's manageable.
The display is a resistive touchscreen. Now you may ask Sony Ericsson 'Pray do tell us why?' and SE claims that the phone is mostly aimed at Asian markets (Read: China and Thai) where the affordable touchscreen phone will let its Sino/Thai users draw the complex characters of their languages when texting. It also comes with support for Roman characters, especially in the context of English words with the help of the touchscreen handwriting recognition.
Like the Z550i, the phone comes with a 1.3MP camera with 4x zoom. While this may not sound like much, the picture can be taken in several different modes including black and white, sepia tint, negative and solarize which makes for an interesting photography experience.
The phone also features applications ubiquitous to most Sony Ericssons such as VideoDJ and MusicDJ that lets users edit and compose video and music.
If the phone does not seem to offer much, it still continues to be an attraction among the peoples of China and Thai who would rather text with one of these than use a phone with the complex characters of their languages printed on their keypads.
