Design and Looks
The XPERIA comes with a metallic finish in Solid Black and Steel Silver. The front of the phone is taken by the large 3” touch screen. The front frame is made out of stainless steel with the rest of the body made of solid plastic with hint of chrome at sides.
Opening the slider reveals the QWERTY keyboard which has keys aligned diagonally on the surface. There is very less head room available on the top row which makes it difficult for people with larger fingers.
The right side of the phone houses the volume rocker and the shutter key at the bottom. On the left side though the phone comes along with the miniUSB port that is used for charging the handset.
The phone features a 3-inch diagonal screen with a native resolution of 800x400 pixels onboard. The image quality is great and is a pleasure to look at in the dark with its strong backlighting. But unlike other Windows mobile phone, this phone also has poor sunlight eligibility.
The phone uses the TouchFLO 3D as its interface engine and comes along with 7 preloaded panels that come right out of the box and the X Panel hardware button gives one-click access to viewing and managing them. The left soft key lets you toggle between 3 x 3 grid and card view. The right soft key takes you to the X-Panels setup where you can change alignment within the grid or add newly downloaded panels.
With its music capabilities, the phone comes along with a standard Windows Media Player which does underperform as it cannot support the various audio formats available out there. The interface is also stylus oriented.
The phone sports a 3.2 megapixel camera with autofocus and a maximum image resolution of 2048x1536 pixels. It also features a LED flash that is used to assist night photography. The image quality is poor on the phone and fails to resolve enough details on the phone.
The handset also includes a GPS receiver. It comes along with the Assisted GPS technology which means the current satellite data over Wi-Fi or the 2G/3G network for a much faster satellite lock.
Overall the phone is really impressive and is all set to give a good competition to its competitor the HTC Touch Pro. Ultimately XPERIA X1 holds out to be a really good choice.
