Design and Looks
The phone measures at 109x55x16mm and weighs about 119g. The front design is very minimalistic and sports the hidden touch sensitive skins keys which are usable after the music player is turned on.
The left spine of the phone contains the strap eyelet and the jog wheel whereas the right spine holds the two volume keys and the camera key.
The phone has a normal alphanumeric keypad and the keys seem to give a good tactile feedback. The keys though do not have a uniform keypad and thus can be a little annoying in the dark. The display on the phone is a 2.6 inches screen which supports 265K colors and works at 240x320 pixels. The sunlight eligibility is pretty good on the device and does well even in bright sunlight.
The Walkman Music player on board is a delight on the phone which is the highlight of the handset. The player supports touch sensitive keys which are nice to operate on when the music player comes alive. The track filtering on the phone is advance and can filter out artist, album, compilations, playlists and auto playlists available as options. There is also shuffle and loop options on playlists while offering the usual equalizer presets and the Mega Bass. There is track search available too on the phone which uses the dedicated box in the bottom left corner. It can accept even handwriting if it's the default input method. There is a sleep timer included on the phone which allows it turn itself off after a defined period of time by the user. The external speakers on the phone are a treat and have a great sound output showcasing a very nice musical experience.
The video on the phone has a great playback too and thus offers a nice functionality. The videos can be watched in landscape mode and at full screen view. The W960 has a support for H.264 video content and one can even watch good quality online TV.
There is also a radio included on the phone which is a good add on completing it nicely as a musical phone. The radio features the RDS feature giving the track ID information and the channel name as its tuned on the device.
The camera on the Sony Ericsson W960i is equipped with a 3.2 megapixel camera with auto focus and a dual-LED flash again. The maximum resolution of the pictures taken with the camera stand at 2048x1536 pixels. The autofocus on the camera phone is equipped with a dedicated macro mode that gives good close up shots. The interface is not that great but not either complicated too.
The phone has a good communication feature set allowing easy transfers to the PC and to handsets without a problem. The battery on the device also gives a good life with a stand by time of 370 hours and talk time of 9 hours.
The Sony EricssonW960i overall a great choice for all music fans with its superior quality and speakers.
