Design and Looks
The Sony Ericsson S312 is a candy bar form factor phone having dimensions of 106x46x12.5 mm and weighs about 80.1g. The design of the phone makes it a touch attractive with its silver pad and with a plastic casing the phone is therefore light on the pocket. The build quality is not that great considering the price but does its job well.
The keypad on the phone is almost crammed in with 4 strips of keys with no room for any space. The keypad is harder to type and does not provide a good comfortable feel for longer duration.
The left of the S312 houses the connector whereas the right side has the shutter key , a playback button and the volume rocker.
The rear panel contains the 2 megapixel camera with led flash.
The screen on the phone is a 2.0 inches wide screen with a resolution of 176x220 pixels and has an output of 256K colors. It sports a scratch resistant surface and is a good feature on the screen. The screen offers bright colors but does not have good visibility outdoors.
The camera on the phone is a 2 MP which is quite good compared to the other handsets offering for a similar price. The onboard flash does its job well with good pictures in low light conditions.
There is File manager included on the Sony Ericsson S12 which is a sweet add on with the device and helps overcome the tedious process of opening various applications to launch individual files.
The S312 also sports a music player which is quite complicated and takes a while getting used to the functions. There are no headphones included with the phone and therefore one has to buy them out separately. The sound though on the phone is exceptionally well and offers good clarity. The handset also features a radio on board with RDS but would only work with the headphones being plugged in.
The connectivity is limited on the phone with no USB cable provided. There is no 3G either but comes along with Bluetooth allowing for easy transfer of data among other compatible Bluetooth devices.
The battery life on the phone offers about 8 hours of talk time and 400 hours of standby which is good enough for a phone with minimalistic features.
Overall a mid-range phone with a good camera and offers enough to the consumers to who could make the most of it with a decent price.
