Design and Looks
For a bohemian phone, the Sony Ericsson Naite is quite a conservative looker. Similar to the design of the older T650, the Naite (or as it's pronounced: Nighty) would have been a great looking handset in some other time. But, one decade since the turn of the century, this phone is uninspiring. The front of the phone sports a 2.2 inch screen that produces 256K over QVGA resolution- nothing remarkable for its price. The one good thing about this antiquated looking piece of block is the alphanumeric keypad at the bottom which is very comfortable to work with. Wish we could say the same for the D-pad and the softkeys though which are crammed just below the screen and are much harder to work with.
A nice thing to note about this GreenHeart phone is that its robust form factor uses up to 50% recycled materials. Also, in a bid to further reduce the carbon footprint the phone ships is a small box, does not come with a hardcopy of the manual (though there's one preinstalled on the phone) and employs a battery and charger thats are built to reduce electricity wastage. Overall, Sony Ericsson claims that the Naite reduces the carbon footprint caused by phone usage up to 15%. Sounds like a good initiative to help keep the environment around us a little more hospitable.
The phone has the standard user interface that's present on almost all Sony Ericsson phones. It is simple, intuitive and snappy. But if you've been using Sony Ericsson phones for quite some time then you may find the interface to be boring. The phone's telephony is splendid and we wouldn't expect any less for the price we're paying. The phone sports the necessary apps like media players and PIM functions but what is new in the software side are green apps like Green Calculator that calculates the user's carbon footprint. Apart from this there is social network integration with Facebook and Twitter. There is also integration with Microsoft Exchange sync.
The phone's camera is a basic 2MP unit. Its imaging capabilities are decent but we wish the phone had a bigger pixels count. On the bright side (pun intended) the camera's shutter speed is amazing and ideal for photo finish moments. The phone sports a slow browser that doesn't make use of the phone's fast 3G connectivity speeds. The 3G connectivity is further rendered useless as there is no secondary camera for video calls.
Now the Naite is an entry level 3G phone that's environment friendly. The specs sheet also suits the price. There are no compromises made here. Not the least for our planet's delicate environmental balance.
